Many people tell me that they are bored during their vacation because it is hard to get around. I find this a shame because there are a lot of fun things to do in the area that you don’t need a car for.

Downtown Seattle, Pike Place Market

Have you ever heard of  Pike Place Market? This market is one of the best known places to visit in Seattle. Pike Place Market is a big market where people sell different kinds of things varying from flowers to books and fish to art. There are two different ways to get there from Green River campus:  You can take the regular bus the entire way and it will cost $1.25 if you are under 18 or $2.50 for 18 and above.  The normal bus (bus line 164 and 150) will get you there is 2 hours (depending on traffic).  The express bus (bus line 181 and bus 578) can be caught at the Auburn or Federal Way station. You will have to buy another ticket. However it will save you a half hour.

Downtown Seattle, Underground Seattle

In 1889, a big part of Seattle was on fire. After this fire, they buildt up new buildings on top of the old ones. Nowadays, you can get back to those old times and go on an underground tour. You can get there with the same buses as to Pike Place Market. If you have a SID card the tour costs you $14.IMG_2059

Space Needle

If you are visiting Seattle, you can’t miss the Space Needle. This big building is most likely Seattle’s most famous place. You can get up to the top for $12 and take in a beautiful panoramic view of Seattle. You can also go up and eat there, but you’ll need a reservation for that. There are a few different possibilities to get there from downtown Seattle. The buses that come close to there are: 1, 4, 13, 16, 24, 33 or the D-line.

Fremont Troll

This enormous troll is hidden under a bridge. The troll has a Volkswagen Beatle in his hand, which used to be a time capsule with Elvis memorabilia. The car looks as if it was taken from the bridge above. There are 2 different ways to get to this troll, you can either take buses 181, 578 (express), 16 which take 1 hour 50 minutes to get there, or buses 164, 150, 5 which take 2 hours 15 minutes to get there.

2$ Movie Theater in Federal Way

This cinema shows movies that are not shown in the normal cinema anymore, this is why the ticket prices are this low. To get there you only have to take the 181 bus for 40 minutes.

EMP Theater Seattle

This museum is located near the Seattle Space Needle. This museum is all about entertainment such as music and movies. They have different exhibitions every now and than. The way to get there is the same as the way to get to the Space Needle. If you order your ticket online, it is $15, but at the door it is $17 for students with a student ID.

Woodland Zoo

This zoo in Seattle has almost 1090 animals! You can get there in less than 2 hours by taking  buses 181, 578 (express) and 5. The admission fee is $12.75.

Ice Skating KentIce Skates

A really good winter activity is ice skating. You can get there in an hour with buses: 164, 169 and 166 (169 changes into 166 on Kent station, so you will stay in the same bus). The admission fee is $8.68 and the skate rental is $3.20.

There are many fun things to do in Auburn area. If you do a little bit of research you would most likely find even more things to do.

Happy holidays, and enjoy your break!
